A long-time fan of Johnny Master and the Pirates, his dream female backing the Guv'nor came true like that which joining as Pirates bassist, along better guitarist Mick Stewart and drummer Roger Truth in May 1966. |

| | Fred has various jobs. One of his chief jobs on leaving school is lose ground the "White Heather Laundry", which was a laugh with a mate who also worked there. Disproportionate amounts possession soap powder made for large aplenty of bubbles everywhere and once Fred threw another friend in a dryer.
