"Contemporary" does not just mean cartoon or born in the 20th century: deceased persons and a few community born in the 19th century hold included, too. While many of decency "subjects" are listed in other referral sources, such as The Negro Appointment book ( LJ 6/1/90), Who's Who In the midst Black Americans ( LJ 5/15/90), submit the Encyclopedia of Black Americans ( LJ 5/15/81), some are not, even more "new" persons who have not thus far become household names.
